Laurent Brondel’s latest Honeycaster Hybrid is a seamless fusion of classic Fender DNA, filtered through Brondel’s unmistakably refined lutherie. Finished in a beautifully aged nitro-cellulose lacquer and dressed with a premium Spitfire pickguard, this one-off build captures the spirit of an old friend while delivering the precision and feel only a master builder can achieve. Its alder body is elegantly contoured, resonant, and exceptionally balanced in hand.
The curly maple neck immediately stands out—both visually and sonically—paired with a round-lam Amazon rosewood fingerboard carved to a Chunky “C” profile inspired by early pre-CBS Fender necks. With measurements of .84” at the 1st fret and .98” at the 12th, plus a 9.5" radius and 1 5/8" bone nut, the neck blends vintage substance with modern playability. Jescar 51100 fretwire enhances articulation and adds to the guitar’s smooth, high-end feel. At 7lbs 3.6oz, the instrument is notably comfortable and impeccably balanced.
Sonically, this Honeycaster delivers a striking tonal palette via a Ron Ellis 52T bridge pickup paired with a set of 64S Strat-style pickups in the middle and neck. The 52T anchors the guitar with bold authority—punchy mids, articulate snap, and the unmistakable bite of a great vintage Tele. The 64S set brings in the chime, woodiness, and dimensional clarity associated with golden-era Stratocasters. Combined with a 5-way selector and dual tone controls, the guitar offers an expansive and musical range of voices.
Hardware is true to Brondel’s high standards: a Kluson Tele bridge outfitted with Rutters intonated steel saddles, Gotoh staggered vintage tuners for smooth and stable operation, and a premium Spitfire pickguard—an aesthetic and tonal upgrade that carries an additional $400 upcharge. The guitar ships in a G&G custom hard case.
A meticulously crafted, deeply expressive instrument, this Honeycaster Hybrid stands as a testament to Brondel’s ability to reinvent classic forms while honoring their lineage.
