Here we have a new for 2020, Dean Gordon Guitars Virtus in Corsa Red. Dean Gordon Guitars are hand-built in NYC in Dean's workshop in Queens. The color is the same as you would find on a classic Ferrari. The guitars finish and appointments all go along with this theme.
If you know Dean, you know he loves classic cars and retro design. He melds both of these subjects together into his guitars seamlessly.
All the details on this instrument are made from materials you would find in a classic Ferrari. Detailed appointments are made from materials such as aircraft grade aluminum, some of which has been anodized black, leather and carbon fibre. You can see the carbon fibre around the toggle switch as well as the large carbon fibre back plate. Inside the guitar, the back of the pots and toggle switch, have been given this same finish with a clean, polished look. The attention to detail on this build is exceptional. Just look at the pickups, with their handmade yellow enamel pinstripes and red cloth.
This is very well balanced and comfortable guitar seated or standing, especially with the leather wrapped lower horn. It holds the guitar precisely in place, without ever feeling like its slipping; often a concern with high gloss finished wooden lower bouts. The guitars neck is a nice and fast, med Modern C shape. Unlike many modern C's, it doesn't feel too thin. It has substance and grace to its shoulders and has a great unrestricted feel up and down the neck with its matte nitro finish.
We were blown away by how loud and resonant this instrument was, before even plugging it in. It truly has something special going for it in that arena. The notes and harmonics just leap off the fingerboard with a bloom and great sustain. The same goes for when it's plugged into an amp. The custom hand-wound McNelly Humbucker pickups are perfect in this build. They can certainly be aggressive when overdriven, but always retain a nice shimmer to the note both clean and dirty with great note to note separation. They pickup the whole range of the instrument. Players of all styles will appreciate its easy playability and quick attack. Clean players will enjoy a rich warm tonality with lots of dynamics. Players who tend to play heavier styles such as Metal, will find it to be the perfect shredding axe. This guitars tone and feel will appeal to a wide range of guitarists of all styles.
