Here we have an incredible 2004 Koll Guitars Duo Glide Model. This guitar was built by Saul Koll (the "Master" himself) in his Portland Oregon workshop. There's a lot to love about this piece. The guitar seems to plays itself. Effortless low action, incredible acoustic resonance, light weight and balanced with tone to die for. To find another guitar on this level, at any price point would be a stretch; we just couldn't be more floored by this instrument.
The neck shape is a fast med-slim C and feels instantly comfortable, making it one of those instruments that just becomes an extension of your body. This Duo weighs in at only 6lbs 7oz and balances perfectly seated or standing. The entire body and neck are finished in a light nitro Silverburst which is even more astonishing to look at in person; with the color subtlety changing in different lighting situations. The body is made of chambered Alder without any F-hole. The neck is also built of Alder. Everything is setup to perfection with a low action of 3 & 4 64th's E to E at the 12th fret!
The dual Lollar Imperial Humbuckers sound airy, articulate and focused. They can sound clean and sparkly with PAF-style girth. Or fat, harmonically rich and growling with some gain. However they never get muddy like some Humbuckers do. This guitar can cover the whole musical spectrum with ease, from Rock to Jazz and everything in between. Just a gorgeous Duo Glide with lots of inspiration to offer to the next owner.. Oh and look at the gorgeous Macassar Ebony Headstock veneer. An impeccable build that truly raises the bar.
This piece is on consignment and cannot be returned. The only thing that keeps this guitar from being in like-new condition, are a few miscellanies and minute finish only scuffs and small scratches on the body, heel and headstock; but besides for those (which are hard to even capture on camera and are to be expected with an instrument of this age) This hand crafted top-tier Luthier built guitar is perfect and a keeper.Â
