By Jersey Girl Homemade Guitars – Handmade in Japan
Now available. This is the newest composition by Japanese luthier Kaz Goto, his wife Eiko Goto, who crafts their straps and all needlework for each composition, and Akiko Oda, the head luthier finisher for JGHG. This work is titled “Tapa Festeeva.” As always, head luthier Kaz Goto begins every build by creating a unique set of jigs specifically for that composition. No two instruments are ever repeated exactly, making each JGHG guitar a singular work of high end playable art.
Jersey Girl models have names that help guide the direction of their design. The Tapa models are known for their patchwork, multicolored tops and fixed bridge layout, artful, tactile, and deeply characteristic of the brand. Tapa Festeeva fully embraces this identity with its vividly stained, quilted Maple surface and hand cut, multicolored Stained Poplar inlay work that forms a painterly, mosaic like top. This piece is equal parts instrument and expressive artwork.
Festeeva features Jersey Girl’s Original Single Coil pickups, wound with Alnico 5 magnets and AWG42 black enamel wire. These pickups deliver a crystalline single coil voice with excellent clarity while having enough body and presence to hold their own under gain. They remain articulate when clean, and when driven offer a tight, musical breakup that responds beautifully to your attack. Paired with a 5 way Super Switch selector, the guitar offers a wide palette of tones, from shimmering cleans to more focused, mid forward punch.
The neck is crafted from Maple and reclaimed Wenge, topped with a Karin fingerboard made from reclaimed Japanese floorboard material. The medium C neck profile measures .086” to .096” and is paired with a comfortable 25 inch scale and Sanko 214H frets. Hardware includes GOTOH SG 360MG tuners, a GOTOH 510FT bridge, an ELECTROSOCKET jack mount, and Switchcraft mono jack for excellent stability and reliability.
Each Tapa composition also includes a custom handmade strap crafted by Eiko Goto. For Festeeva, the strap is made from cotton fabric and cow leather with embroidered cotton thread, all carefully coordinated with the guitar’s unique aesthetic. A matching Maple and Red Alder pick case is included as well.
Tapa Festeeva is a beautifully realized composition, visually bold, sonically expressive, and crafted with the exceptional artistry Jersey Girl Homemade Guitars is known for. It is a truly singular instrument where luthiery, visual art, and hand craftsmanship come together as one.
