This C.P. Thornton Classic II Thinline is a standout example of boutique craftsmanship, blending refined design with vintage soul. Built by Chuck Thornton in Sumner, Maine, this guitar showcases his signature approach to tone, feel, and aesthetics.
The body is made from old-growth Heart Pine, harvested approximately 160 years ago and hand-dried for optimal tone and stability. It’s incredibly resonant and featherweight, with a loud, lively acoustic presence that speaks to the quality of the materials and construction.
The neck is cut from torrefied 5A flame rock maple, providing excellent snap and stability. Paired with a set of Ron Ellis pickups, a MidTall in the neck and a 52T in the bridge, it delivers remarkable clarity, warmth, and bite. Whether clean or pushed, the response is rich and expressive.
Finished in clear nitrocellulose lacquer to let the wood shine, it’s rounded out with Gotoh staggered tuners, EVO gold fretwire, a Rutters bridge + compensated brass saddles, and black Bakelite guard. Every element of this build reflects precision and musicality.
