This is the newly updated Professional Gen II from CP Thornton Guitars, handbuilt in Maine by luthier Chuck Thornton. Chuck has been refining this model since 2000, and the latest version takes the semi-hollow concept even further. By simplifying the internal bracing to just a pair of soundposts under the stop tailpiece, the Gen II version, opens up with a more airy, woody resonance while still keeping feedback controlled. It’s a design that balances the best of solidbody focus and hollowbody character.
The body is built entirely from Honduras mahogany, with a matching top, back, and sides. Its Honduran mahogany neck features a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and headstock, and the guitar is dressed with a matching Brazilian rosewood pickguard. A set of Ron Ellis LRP pickups brings out every nuance, delivering a clear, expressive voice that pairs beautifully with the guitar’s semi-hollow construction.
Playability is effortless, thanks to the 25” scale, 1 11/16-inch nut worth, 12” radius, and EVO fretwire. TonePros hardware ensures rock-solid stability, and the Translucent Oxblood nitrocellulose finish lets the deep mahogany grain glow. At just 6 lbs 5 ½ oz, it’s lightweight, resonant, and incredibly responsive to the touch.
The Professional Gen II is Chuck Thornton’s vision of a semi-hollow guitar for today’s player: warm, lively, and endlessly inspiring.
