From past Ronin and Pensa Custom guitars luthier Izzy lugo and his partner Vinnie Saccocio comes Fiam Guitars.
Recently Fiam developed the ‘Mirari F-5 with newly designed dual P-90 style pickups (still an option) which are absolutely beautiful. However due to popular demand, the original Foil Bucker from Izzy’s days with Ronin is now again an available option as well.
Physically this guitar features many of the same ingredients found in the original Mirari. Such as a body built from 900 + years old, Old Growth Redwood and a Honduran Mahogany neck with RW board, keeping these instruments both lightweight and resonant. Each piece of wood used is hand chosen by Izzy & Vinnie for the best possible weight, rigidity and of course tone. The fretwork and setup as always on the guitars Izzy builds is impeccable.
As mentioned this guitar features two Foil Bucker pickups. They are able to be split into single coils using the push-push buttons next to the first two control knobs.
This Mirari also features the Magic Button option, which is a piezo disc with its own dedicated push button located beneath the 3-way toggle switch. The “Magic Button” is hidden inside of the guitars body, beneath the bridge pickup. This button allows you to get an acoustic or dobro like sound out of your guitar. You can also get much more experimental with it and tap on the body for rhythmic looping or scratch at the springs for an unusual sound effect.
The Foil Bucker pickups cross the line between a great Gold-Foil and low output PAF. Every nuance of your playing is heard and they clean up beautifully with your guitars volume control.
Winding one coil in each pickup much stronger than the other allows for the humbucking tones to still sound crisp and bell-like. Because of this offset winding scheme you are also able to split each pickup without a noticeable drop in volume. These pickups can have a near acoustic-like quality to them and are highly sensitive to your pick attack. The FB also loves drive and fuzz pedals. They can be meaty and fat but with the push of either one of the two coil-split buttons, they become brighter and more focused; leaning more towards the Fullerton CA side of the tonal spectrum. Of course with their Gold Foil DNA there is always some amount of warmth and ethereal airiness to this guitars tone. Playing a Mirari is truly a mesmerizing & unique experience all its own.
A new addition to the Fiam Mirari not found on previous Ronin models is the Vega Tremolo
system. It is set up to float with two balanced low friction springs. This guitar also has an upgraded "Torn" trem route, which allows for extreme pull back.
Even with the standard non-upgraded trem route models you can pull back quite a bit. However with the Vega Trem and full Torn route this guitar can pull back at least two whole steps and in some situations even more. It's pretty wild.
Now to discuss the included 4-button Tornipulator circuit. If you are into Avant-Garde music or like to build unique landscapes of sound while using pedals like loopers or just want to use the momentary Kill-Switch or LPF alone for tremolo or vibrato type sounds; it's all at your finger tips. The 4-Button Tornipulator has these 4 functions; all of which can be used in conjunction together. The first button (all momentary) activates the Microphone, the second introduces 60 Cycle Hum and is essentially a ground lift, the third button is a Kill Switch and last but not least is a momentary Low Pass Filter (LPF) button. This button doesn’t kill the pickups signal completely like the kill-switch but instead momentarily darkens the pickups tone.
This Mirari is finished in a beautiful Aged Sonic Blue nitro finish. The guitar features a medium-light relic.
