This one's got it. Mario Guitars really knocked it out of the park on this NAMM build, that unfortunately never made it to NAMM; as it was cancelled. Luckily for you (us), Mario offered this special Strat to our store in NY.
This guitar is inspired by Mary Kaye's 54 Stratocaster with a Mary Kaye White Blonde finish and some unique appointments such as a Gold Anodized Aluminum pickguard and a 1 piece Paulownia body, that is light as any guitar we've ever played, including hollow and semi-hollow body designs. Weighing in at only 5lbs 12oz. It’s also incredibly well balanced. This featherweight guitar is a real treat to play for any Strat fanatic and may even sway some non-Strat players to start picking on an S-Style design.
The guitar sports a set of '61 Rocketfire handwound pickups. This set just sings. They have a ton of bite without the harshness found in some Strat sets (especially the bridge) they are nice and fat with brilliant clarity. The neck pickup can get all those classic SRV and Hendrix style tones and much more, depending on what rig you're playing this extremely well built and precisely thought out guitar through. Even the middle and bridge/neck, / neck/bridge positions are fat yet chimy. These are some addicting pups.
The 1-piece Maple neck has a nice Chunky C profile measuring .860"-.930" A comfortable medium for players who enjoy a fat neck but not a baseball bat. Bends are incredibly easy with the compound radius. The neck starts with a 9.5" radius that most of us are accustomed to and very gradually becomes a 12" radius past the 12th fret where bending without fretting out is critical. A lightly reliced finish completes this build, with a worn in feel to the neck, zero stickiness here. This Mario has low action and a perfect setup with 10 gauge strings by StringJoy, one of our personal favorite hand wound string companies, whom we are also dealers of.
