Mirabella Guitars continue the NY Guitar Tradition and style of building high-end, fully Handmade instruments from which Cristian was raised on. While incorporating his own innovative designs. This balance, as well as the balance of visual striking ascetics, top-quality workmanship/materials and acoustic-science, are all reflected in each and every guitar; archtop, flattop or solid body Cris Mirabella creates.
Much of Cris's youth was spent in Jimmy D'Aquisto's workshop, listening and learning from the Master Luthier. While not a full-on apprentice of Jimmy; as he was to young at the time. Mirabella did apprentice under Ron DeMarino who built a name for himself as a great NY Luthier and repair tech after many years of doing work on countless vintage guitars for John Lennon and other well known artists of every genre. While Cristian Mirabella is most well known for his fully carved archtops like his Crossfire model, as well as restorations of many fine vintage instrument masterpieces, by names such as D'Angelico & D'Aquisto. On occasion when he has the time, Cris enjoys building and designing solid body guitars like this Jette-KR-72. The name of this models inspiration comes from his wives first name, the KR stands for Keith Richards as the guitar is inspired in-part by Keith Richards love for the Telecaster and Telecaster Deluxe of the 70's, which brings us to the "72" which is the year the Telecaster Deluxe was designed; though the first year of production was in 1973.
The Jette-KR-72 is a Mirabella original design that was built exclusively and in close collaboration with our store South Shore Guitar Boutique on Long Island NY. This is the first and only Jette model, that will ever feature a one piece neck and appointments built from "The Tree" a historic tone wood coveted by many of the worlds most in demand Luthiers as well as the worlds most well known tone-fanatics. Players such as Slash and Keith Richards both own guitars built from this highly coveted Quilted Mahogany. A 500-year-old chunk of dense tone-wood that once towered over 100 feet tall. It was discoverered in 1965; about ten years after falling to the ground.
The body of this guitar is not offset at the waist but it is however offset at the lower bout. The body is built out of light-weight Swamp Ash that is finished in an ultra thin, White Blonde Nitro gloss finish that you can see and feel the grain through. The fingerboard is East Indian Rosewood with small pearl dot inlays and grained Ivoroid binding. It has a unique reverse headstock design, that does not utilize nor need string-trees.
The scale length of this guitar is like that of a Fender at 25 1/2" but has 22 frets. The pickguard (which is bound in 3-ply Ivoroid), neck pickup cover and back-plate were all handmade by Cris Mirabella using the same coveted "Tree" wood as the neck.
This guitar is very lively acoustically with a strong emphasis on the lower-mids. This translates to a guitar that can produce thicker Tele-like tones in the bridge position which has a Tone Master 52 style wind, but with staggered magnets to better match the fingerboards radius; while also satisfying those who like to finger pick with its big thumping middle position (both pickups on) which is the 4th position on the 5-way selector switch. The neck pickup was specially wound for this instrument by Tone Master Pickups, who rewinds and builds Mirabella many of the pickups he uses in both his own incredible guitars; as well as the fine and historical instruments that he restores. It has three separate tones on the 5-way switch, that are all well suited for Jazz, Countey and Rock styles.Though we believe all players will find tones that inspire them in this beautiful guitar. The three neck positions are the back coil, both coils together as a Humbucker, then the front of the pickups coil alone. When mixing the pickups together in the 4th position you get the bridge pickup along with the inner/second coil. This is a much richer and more focused sound than the outer coil or full pickup in conjunction with the bridge pickup.
