OOPEGG Guitars are hand crafted in Japan by a small team of luthiers with an eye for design. From the moment you pick up this instrument it's clear that OOPEGG takes their craft very seriously. The feel, playability, tones and build quality are all top-notch. The Trailbreaker MK-III reminds us a lot of the retro-style, vintage Japanese built guitars from the 1960's; with their unique pickup switching option and electronics, offset body design and vibrato system. The major difference is in the superior build quality and modern day features, making them versatile and gig ready guitars right out of the case.
This particular MK-III features three humbuckers by Magneto Design Lab in North Carolina. They are connected to a 3-way toggle switch and there is a 3 position mini toggle as well. When the mini toggle is in the down position you essentially have a dual hum-bucking guitar, as the middle pickup is out of the circuit. In the middle position the middle pickup gets added to any of the 3-way toggles positions. This allows for Strat-like middle position tones as well as all three pickups on at once. When in the up position the mini-toggle delivers just the middle pickup by itself. Another useful onboard feature is the push-push tone control. You have two separate capacitors. In the down position your tone control works like you would expect; when pushed the tone control becomes a passive filter, giving you a pseudo acoustic-like tone.
The Goeldo G5 vibrato is incredibly smooth and responsive. A useful feature is that you can adjust the length and curve of the arm with an included allen wrench.
