This is one our favorite guitars that Ronin has ever made. Originally custom built for Portland Oregon based guitarist Ryan Miller, this Stormcrow features many Ronin firsts and is truly one of a kind. It features extra arm and belly contours for extreme comfort and an eye-catching appearance. The guitar is equipped with Ronin Stormcrow Wound Foil Buckers and a Single Foil behind the bridge. The behind the bridge Single Foil has a dedicated 3-way mini toggle that allows you to turn it off in the first position, blend it with the Foil Buckers in the second position or use it alone in the third. You also have a Magic Button / Piezo pickup switch that can be used in conjunction with any of the pickup settings. As for custom features this Stormcrow also comes equipped with a Kill-Switch momentary button. There are tons of sonic possibilities with this setup.
This is one of those guitars that is just dripping with inspiration. Being built in 2019 there is certainly some honest finish wear; but it is hard to distinguish which wear is from the original relicing process and which came afterwards. Included is a 3-ply black pickguard that Ryan requested after purchasing the instrument. The body is not currently drilled for this guard, though it would be a simple procedure to drill the holes if you decided that you’d like to install it. The original frets have a full life ahead of them.
Overall, this rare Ronin is in great playing condition with a recent pro setup and a set of 10–46 gauge strings. The action is set at a nice and low 3 1/2 & 4 64ths of an inch at the 12th fret high E to low E.
As mentioned, this guitar is equipped with two Ronin “Stormcrow Wound” Foil Bucker Pickups. They are much like a standard Ronin Foil Bucker, but in a slightly smaller and more decorative casing. They were specifically wound and designed for 24 & ¾” scale guitars and all shorter scale Ronin models. You can think of the tone as a perfect mashup of the best qualities of a Gold-Foil and a PAF. They also have the punch and grit of a P-90 but with the clarity and bite of a Tele or Strat style pickup.
As you lower the volume controls this guitar never loses its unique tonal characteristics, the tone just simply gets cleaner. This is great for cranking your tube amp and using the volume knobs to go from clean to dirty. It’s the kind of tone that excites the senses and stands out in a mix while also working well for solo guitar work. Comes with original COA and MONO protective gig-bag. Ronin had run out of Reunion Blues protective gig-bags at the time it was shipped to it’s first owner.
