There is nothing out there quite like a Ronin in the high-end Luthier built guitar market. Head builder Izzy Lugo and the Ronin team has built a line of exciting and ground-breaking new and original designs. Everything from the feel of their guitars neck carves, fret work, setups, extremely resonant Master Grade Old-Growth Redwood bodies and Ronins proprietary pickup designs; all culminate to create instruments that are equally inspiring to play and hear as they are to marvel at. Not to mention the extreme attention to detail given to their lightly applied and artfully (sometimes aged) nitro finishes and revolutionary work on getting the most out of a guitars 2 pin Vibrato system; which balances perfectly using a slanted 2-spring method, on their 2-Pin Mannmade Vibrato equipped guitars like this one.
With Ronins now VERY limited production rate, this unbelievable heirloom quality, fully hand-built Speedster Morningstar (Ser # 02) will only appreciate in value. This guitar and the Speedster Morningstar in Evening Orchid (Ser # 01) available in a separate listing, were custom ordered by a local customer/collector as a pair. However with the Covid Pandemic still raging, he could not afford to keep them and needed to immediately sell them back to us. They have never been played or used and are in absolutely Brand New condition.
This wild guitar incorporates some of the most loved and innovative Ronin features like their famous Magic Button which brings into play a specialized passive piezo Harp Mic that resides inside a cavity in the body. This can lead to many musical results and enhances the sounds of the very resonant lightweight Old Growth Redwood body. Upon pressing it, you'll be able to enhance all the subtle nuances of the instrument. Letting you tap and play behind the nut or scratch at the springs. You can also get acoustic like tones that are blend-able with the other pickups. As you roll down your guitars volume control/controls, it becomes more present, this can lead to lap-steel, banjo, dobro and many other experimental but very musical tones.
This unique Morningstar features three of Ronins more recent Twin Scroll Speedster Dual-Coil Pickups. While the Foil-Bucker Mini pickups Ronin typically uses in the Morningstar model are as if one mashed the best of a traditional low-output vintage Gold-Foil with a Gibson PAF; the Speedster Pickups sound like as if one mashed together both a vintage Kay Speed Demon Single Coil pickup and a PAF together. The Speed Demon pickups by Kay did not look like Gold-Foils, however they were almost identical to a Gold-Foil pickup in their bobin & coil geometry, windings and tone, but a little bit hotter to push a tube amp further into overdrive sooner than a traditional Gold-Foil pickup. What you get is a pickup that will sound familiar to the Ronin player but with more depth and bottom-end. Mixing them with the 5-way switch is extremely pleasing, as the fatter/fuller sounding Speedsters deliver better bass and middle response than the Foil-Bucker, for those who prefer a P-90 over a Strat pickup; these are for you.
If you already own a STD Morningstar, then you'll have another axe with a slightly different tonal palate, that one can sit and be inspired by all day long. These instruments are very responsive to your pick attack and where you set your volume and tone controls. Rolling off some volume cleans up the tone but retains all the beautiful fidelity and shimmer, we've come to expect from the Ronin Morningstar.
This is what satisfying tone sounds like. They need to be heard to be believed. You can get everything from fat-growling PAF humbucker style tones mixed with more than a just a hint of Gold-Foil clarity at its best, to more ethereal & airy P-90 mixed with Strat-like tones that cut through the mix without sounding the slightest bit harsh (perfection). Mixed with the Magic Button, you will always find new and exciting tones from this instrument. This guitar just begs to be played.
The neck is medium-chunky. It features Ronin’s masterfully hand carved V to C neck profile with heavy rolled edges, a personal favorite of ours which measures .88" - .92”.
