Here is a very rare guitar created by John and Serge of Tao Guitars. In many ways it is a statement piece. Its beauty can be appreciated by all lovers of fine hand made guitars, surrealist paintings (hence the name "Delvaux") in honor of well known Belgian surrealist painter Paul Delvaux and of course classic cars like the famous Alfa Romeo Disco Volante and Disco Volante Stradale. The name is fitting as Disco Volante in Italian means "Flying Saucer" and this instrument definitely looks like it is from another world, in the best way possible. The build quality is "Old World Craftsmanship" brought into the new century, at it's finest.
The Stradale is Tao's solid body version of their Semi-Hollow Disco Volante model. It features some of the most striking and esthetically pleasing lines to ever bless the guitar world. A masterfully built tone machine and true work of art.
The finish is the lightest I have ever seen on any instrument; with the grain of the guitar fully visible. This example has both a two piece light weight Spanish Cedar body and a quarter-sawn Spanish Cedar neck. You can feel the texture of the wood grain when holding this instrument. With personal experience playing Tao guitars; I can truly say like others in my collection, that the quality and attention to detail is second to none.
These instruments (particularly this set-neck build) are like living, breathing organisms. I feel instantly attached to every single one of Tao's guitars that I've had the pleasure to play or have been lucky enough to own. This is an instrument you experience rather than just play. The music comes almost effortlessly, to those it inspires.
This is Tao's first offering with a Mastery bridge and vibrato system. The bridge is angled for even better intonation.
This Stradale once had an aluminum wraparound tailpiece but was retrofitted not long after its conception by John and Serge at Tao with a Red Mastery kit (very fitting). The knobs are custom made by Tao and machined out of aluminum, the black three-way toggle switch has a very neat/clean dual white ring design engraved into it.
The pickups are Custom hand wound Benedetti "Johnny Blade" Pickups, that are adjustable via the screws on the back of the body. They are true single coils similar to a vintage Charlie Christian pickup but with much greater attack. The tone is clear and focused when clean, but can be fat and growling like a great vintage P-90 when pushing a tube-amp into overdrive. RWRP for hum-canceling in the middle position.
Last but not least this incredibly ergonomic design is only 6lbs 3oz! Only slight signs of wear to the incredibly thin finish. This guitar plays incredibly with a low action of 4 64th E to E with adjustment to move up or down.
