The Tausch Montreux is a remarkable, forward-thinking guitar that feels and looks right at home next to your Tele or Strat; yet at a closer glance it is a truly well thought out and precisely executed, unique instrument. The Montreux has a lively character all its own. The build quality and tone of these guitars are sure to please even the most discerning of guitarists.
Only a few of these gems are built each year, to the highest of standards in Germany by Luthier Rainer Tausch. The Montreux is the newest addition to the Tausch family of instruments. While certainly influenced by the Fullerton T-Style design, at a closer glance you will notice many departures in design that make this magnificent guitar what it is and truly stand out in the crowd of T-Style guitars.
Starting with the slightly oversized body made from one piece Chestnut. The Montreux is extremely resonant unplugged with piano-like sustain. The wood used also keeps this build light-weight and balanced. While this is a true set-neck design, the guitar has a quick and snappy response like a bolt-on. The pickups are a specially RWRP set of Staple-P-90's. Staple P-90's offer much more clarity and focus than other P-90’s. They're hand-wound by one of the finest; Haeussel In Germany. The Staple has the girth of a standard P-90 with the clarity of a Fullerton style single-coil. The oversized "Staple" Alnico 5 magnets give the guitar perfect note separation. If you have ever played an early Gretsch Duo-Jet with Dynasonics (a very similar design) or a Gibson L-5 and/or Black Beauty with Staple P-90's you'll know precisely what we're talking about. They sound incredibly dynamic and reson to your touch like nothing else. The Staple's give the Strat-style pickup positions; such as the neck and middle together a fatter, glassier tone than your average single-coil pickup. When pushed into overdrive the guitar is like a Duo Jet and Tele mixed together. There's lot of fat twang and snap that can cut through a mix, however the tone is articulate and smoother around the edges. The guitar cleans up extremely well and it's a nice feature to be able to turn the middle pickup on and off at the flick of a switch.
The vibrato on this Montreux is a Duesenberg, it's a greatly touch sensitive and smooth to use vibrato unit. The Duesenberg can go much further than any Bigsby. It also has a modern, industrial look that we just love.
If you're after a reliable and versatile guitar, that can cover all genres equally well, while feeling like an instrument that could have been conceived in the late 50's or early 60's; the Montreux is a well worthy candidate to consider.
